Comments:Read the past posts and saw some from my old unit "across the fence" -- the 228th S&S. Had forgotten the unit number, so it was quite a surprise to see it in your mail. I adjusted to the incoming pretty quickly so I was amazed to see it mentioned by so may who were there. Remembered we were taking hits several times each day but did not realize we were taking over a 100 rockets a day or that they held so much explosives. No wonder their explosive ball of smoke, fire and shrapnel was so large -- that I do remember.

Comments:Fantastic site. I served Feb-July 69 just across the fence from you in the logistics unit under 29th General Support Group. Used to watch movies with you guys at your outdoor theater. I'll never forget watching choppers riddled with holes landing at your helipad. I think of you guys and gals everytime I see MASH. God bless you all. Your photos really brought back memories and now I have even more to show my sons. Thanks. I can't believe how much more desolate the camp was in 68 than it was in 69 when I arrived. Thanks for the history lesson.

Comments:Thank you for allowing me to post a question: Do you know what the current status is for LASIK and laser vision correction surgery in the military? At one point, it was discouraged. I've seen articles lately about how the military is condoning and actually funding such surgeries for soldiers. What is your view, and what can providers of such surgeries do to better cater to the military?

Comments:I ran the General Surgery folks at 24th Evac at Long Binh from May 68-69. I have tremendous respect for the 45th because you guys and gals were hit nightly and worked in an incredibly difficult environment. I would love to find Dr. Lenny Glass and Dr. Jerry Morton who were there in 1967-68. Meanwhile, thanks for always sending your casualties up to us in the best shape ever and for hanging in there in the days when I visited, when the inflatables were punctured by mortar rounds and the roof was being held up by litters on-end. Special people...great web site. Check ours out at: www.24thevacuationhospital.org. Thanks and Welcome home...John B

I arrived at the 45th and served there as an OR tech from Aug 68 to Aug 69. The memories I have of that place are still relatively fresh on my mind--I guess something like that stays with you forever. I remember we had some great docs, nurses and support personnel. I will be visiting your site from time to time in the future to really refresh some of the finer details. Thanks for the opportunity to recall some good (and not so good) times.
