Comments: | Served with the 45th Surg from April-July 1969. Transferred from the 7th Surg when that unit was shut down. Although my primary MOS was 91D, I had a secondary MOS of 71G after a bout with malaria at Blackhorse. First person I met at the 45th was tying to fill an A&D slot...my orders magically changed! I think the Head Nurse is still mad. As a Colorado native, I could not take my eyes off the Black Virgin Mountain; my 35 mm slides are still intriguing. Maybe the time, circumstances and best friends are the reason?
Probably like many of you, I never imagined being able to revisit that time in our lives via the internet. Can't adequately express how special that has become.
Welcome Home to all of you! |

Comments: | Went to Viet Nam with the unit from Ft. Sam. PCS'd out 9/67. What a year. I set up what was to become the "club" after getting our first beer allowance (2 per)and made many aquisitioning trips to Long Bien for lumber and other goodies. Would sure like to hear from other 66-67 or any 45th alumni. Just discovered this site today, 12/30/03 and got pretty choked up. Please keep me posted re: the NEXT reunion. Happy New Year. |

Comments: | Was a company clerk in Feb/67. I was from New Jersey then. As I remember there was a unit CO also from Passaiac, N.J. butI have forgotten his name. I was on duty in the office when on a Sunday morning General Westmorland walked in looking for the CO who was in the chow hall. He came to congratulate the unit because they had recently received their 1000 patient alive who had survived. The record of the unit was outstanding. I also remember a Dr. and a nurse who were married and had their own tent. Their last name was White so it was called the white house. I did not stay long I was transfered to the Big Red One. I will check for pictures. I do have some of the town of Tay Ninh and the Cao Dai temple. Welcome Home

Comments: | Despite the fact that my very full life has gone on for thirty-three years past my year in Vietnam, from time to time I find myself looking for sites like this as a catharsis for and a validation of my year's experiences there. I am grateful for these sites because only those of us who were there can truly understand and fully share our memories and emotions. An OR nurse in Vietnam from June 1969-June 1970, I was reassigned to the 45th Surg when the 2nd Surg in Lai Khe was closing in February 1970. Attending the reunion in Rockville,Maryland meant more to me than I could have imagined. I almost didn't attend because I wasn't sure I wanted to bring old memories to the surface after working so hard to bury them. I am so glad that I did. I wish you all good health, love, peace, and joy. |

Comments: | Dear Friends,
Got the bug and looked up some of my old units on the web... Found you.
I do not recall your names but I was with the 45th in Tay Ninh from about October 66 to about february 67 when I was transfered to the 44th Medical Brigade in Sai Gon. A very good move indeed.
I was a cook at the 45th, sorry for that food, but I told them I was not suited for the job.
I have searched a few times for my friend Elsie Harless who was also a cook there.
He and I were sleeping in the Mess Hall one night near the end of October when a mortar round came through the roof.
Before the 45th, I was at the 93rd Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh. Drove a supply truck for them and hauled the Vietnamese KP's back and forth from Sai Gon.
I stayed in Viet Nam for two years with two extensions.
I now have an on-line business that I supply with products that I have made in Viet Nam, I travel there a few times a year on business. I always loved that country and am happy to have a business tha |

Comments: | i was stationed with the 228th S&S company in tay ninh. from 2/67 and left during TET 2/68. we'd pass by 45th on the way to the PX. and occasionally we'd go to get shots. remember the nurses had a club call Menopause Heaven and it was painted the most ugly purple or it could have been the Lone Star. our decon truck would go around and fill the 55 gal drums used for showers. the year i was there it was pretty mellow. we had kicked CHARLIE'S ass pretty bad during Operation Junction City. late in 67 i went up to Katum for operation Yellowstone. took off from heli pad at 45th. welcome back and take care. |
