Battery-operated live GPS vehicle tracking is now available with the Protrak Ranger. The Ranger is a small, magnetic GPS vehicle tracking system that operates up to 120 days on four AA batteries. The Protrak Ranger is easy to install and the water resistant shell gives you the flexibility to place the unit inside or outside the vehicle.
How does the Live GPS Protrak Ranger work?
The Ranger sends a signal back to our server every 20 seconds. You can access your data by installing the included software and logging on with your username and password. Once you are logged on, you can see where the vehicle is and also where it has BEEN. The mapping software is similar to Google Maps, allowing you to zoom in, pan back, view addresses, etc.
Where do I install the ProTrack Ranger vehicle tracking system?
The live vehicle tracking device is a plain black magnetic box. Simply find a flat metal surface under the vehicle and stick it on. The Ranger will not fall off of the vehicle. The unit weighs less than two pounds and the magnets will hold over 40 pounds.
Vehicle tracking system battery life:
The ProTrak Ranger runs on four AA batteries. The unit has a built-in motion sensor, allowing the unit to "sleep" when the vehicle is not moving. When the motion sensor feels vibration, the unit automatically turns back on and begins tracking.
A nice feature of this unit is that when you log on to track the vehicle, the software will tell you what the battery drain is - this way, you don't have to guess as to when it's time to swap out the old batteries for a fresh set.
Monthly Tracking Costs
When you purchase the Ranger for $449.00, there is an additional activation fee and affordable monthly service fee. The one-time activation fee is $49.00. For monthly service, you have two options:
If you sign up for one year, unlimited usage is $27.00 per month, billed quarterly.
If you want a short term three-month plan, unlimited usage is $125.00 for the entire three months.
